What an exciting week this has been! Starting with Saturday evening, July 18th. Diana was REALLY ready for her babies to come. The first one came easy, but the second was a breech delivery – very hard. Third, fourth and fifth came in the early hours of the morning. One was stillborn, and the poor little breech baby only survived two days. As before Diana was the perfect mother – well cleaned and all had been nursing by morning. One down and two to go.
Magic was a sable football on four little pegs. We thought she would lead the prides, but she waited two days later before presenting her babies. Of course, in the wee hours of Monday morning, we heard her labor. Now Magic isn’t the brightest bulb on the tree, but she used perfect logic when placing her babies in a nest. Diana had moved her kittens into a new hideout, all spotlessly clean. Where did Magic put her new born, unwashed babies, afterbirth and all? Why right on top of Diana’s babies. I tried separating the new comers from the elders. Neither mother was agreeable. They each claimed all babies as their own. So, as I did before, both mothers were put in the one box – Magic to the back and Diana guarding the front. A loving heart of sable purring surrounded the babies. All four of Magic’s kittens arrived mixing happily with Diana’s. Each mother took turns grooming, diapering and feeding the babies. With seven kittens they often worked together on the feeding part. All babies are growing and nursing beautifully.
Heddy was not to be left out of the family ways. Wednesday night she delivered four kittens, and groomed and fed each one perfectly. She made no noise but was so happy to see me the next morning. She ran from her birthing room and modeled her svelte shape – completely back to normal. She then showed me to her babies and purred over each one. Two sables and two champagnes. She was so proud, and rightly so of her accomplishments.
The final tally is eleven babies - four champagne, three dark sables, and four either light sables or very dark champagnes. I have guessed at the sexes of the first seven – both champagnes are males, the dark sables are male and female, and the three lighter sables are 2 females and a male. I think. I’ll give Heddy’s babies one more week before trying to sex them.
We are all happy here and eagerly await the blooming personalities. Please contact me for adoption of kittens.
